How to oven cook a haggis

This method takes the longest but it may well be the most traditional method. While it takes a while it isn’t labourish so you can bung the haggis in and come back when it’s ready.

Simon Howie Haggis (Original or Vegetarian (or Gluten Free!) )

Longer for Chieftain and shorter for the Wee Haggis.

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees (170 for fan / gas mark 5)
  2. Remove the haggis from the outer bag but keep in casing and clips
  3. Tightly wrap in aluminum foil
  4. Place in an oven-proof dish and fill halfway with water.
  5. Cover with a lid and cook for 75 minutes.
  6. Check the water level from time to time and top up if required.
  7. Once ready, remove from the oven. Remove foil and carefully slice open the haggis and serve.
