Father & Son Champions Again: Richard and Ben Megahy Retain Butcher Wars Title in Perth

We’re thrilled to announce that our very own Richard and Ben Megahy – the talented father-and-son team from the Perth shop – have once again emerged victorious at the Scottish Craft Butchers Butcher Wars Competition, held on Sunday, 11th May 2025 in Perth.

This marks a remarkable back-to-back win, as the Megahys successfully defended their title in front of a buzzing crowd of industry peers, customers, and supporters. The competition, known for its intensity, precision, and pressure, celebrates the very best of butchery skill, speed, and creativity – and Richard and Ben delivered on all fronts.

Precision, Passion, and Pride
The Butcher Wars pits top talent from across Scotland against each other in a fast-paced showcase of knife skills, technical cuts, and product presentation – all within a strict time limit. Competitors must demonstrate not just speed, but craftsmanship and flair – and it’s clear Richard and Ben have both in abundance.

Their win is a proud moment not just for the Perth shop but for the entire Simon Howie team. It’s also a fantastic example of tradition and innovation working hand in hand – with Richard’s decades of experience perfectly complemented by Ben’s fresh approach and energy.

“This win means the world to us,” said Ben after the competition. “It’s a team effort, built on years of learning, hard work, and a shared love for the craft. To compete alongside my dad and win again is really special.”

Richard added: “I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved. The competition is fierce, and it’s great to see so much talent coming through across Scotland. But being able to do this with my son and retain the title makes it even more rewarding.”
