The Simon Howie 5k Puddin’ Race & Fun Run: A Cracking Day for the Community
What do you get when you mix running shoes, a good dose of Scottish spirit, and a whole lot of haggis? An unforgettable day — that’s what.
Our recent Simon Howie 5k Puddin’ Race and Fun Run brought together runners, families, friends, and plenty of familiar faces for a day that celebrated fitness, fun, and community — with a Simon Howie twist, of course.
From seasoned runners chasing victory to the little ones enjoying the Fun Run, not even the weather could dampen the atmosphere. It was buzzing from start to finish, with enthusiastic encouragement from volunteers and spectators alike, resulting in huge smiles crossing the finish line — hills and all!
The 5k Puddin’ Race saw some impressive performances, with runners giving it their all for the chance to claim not just bragging rights, but a well-earned reward at the finish line.
First across the line and crowned The Great Chieftain o’ the Puddin’ Race was Alastair Marshall (Central) in an astonishing time of 15:58, setting a new course record.
For the lassies, Chrissie Maitland (Pitreavie AAC) brought it home in a brilliant 21:05.

Meanwhile, the Fun Run lived up to its name, with kids aged 3–12 taking on the 1k alongside pals and parents — all rewarded with well-earned snacks and stickers at the finish.
Huge thanks go to Taylors, Stoats, and Highland Spring for supporting the event with much-appreciated haggis crisps, oat bars, and water.
What really made the day special was the sense of togetherness. Events like this remind us why we love being part of the local community — cheering each other on, having a laugh, and sharing a memorable experience (preferably followed by something tasty).
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who took part, volunteered, supported from the sidelines, and helped make the event run so smoothly.
Shout out to Helen Watson from Oor Haggis – everyone loved the mascot and the donation of prizes to the kids fun run was much appreciated.
A massive thank you also goes to our team, who worked behind the scenes to bring the Puddin’ Race and Fun Run to life.
Donations taken from runners at the point of registration had already raised over £900 for SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) before the race even started. The SAMH team also joined us on the day to support the runners and collect even more generous donations.
Final total to be confirmed — watch this space.
Whether you came to race, jog, support, or simply soak up the atmosphere, thank you for being part of the first-ever Simon Howie 5k Puddin’ Race and Fun Run. We’ve been blown away by the positive feedback and, once we’ve recovered, we’ll very much be looking to run the event again next year.
Until then, keep moving, keep smiling, and never underestimate the motivational power of puddin’.
